27 May 2024

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to invite community members in the northern and southern regions of Cape Town to comment on proposed one-way road conversions in their respective areas. The closing date for comments is 7 June 2024.

Interested and affected parties can view maps and designs of affected streets/roads here: www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay

Residents and road users in the southern and northern regions are encouraged to submit comments on the City’s proposal to implement traffic management measures – one-way road conversions – in their respective areas. The City plans to convert 13 roads within Subcouncils (SC) 6, 11, 14, 18 and 20.

The remaining information days are as follows (SC 6 and SC 11 already presented):

  • Baartmans and Pretorius Streets, Southfield (SC18): 4 June 2024 from 16:00 – 19:00 at Retreat Civic Centre,19 Toring Weg, Retreat
  • Aandwind and Silverwater Streets, Kirstenhof (SC20): 5 June 2024 from 15:00 – 18:00 at Kirstenhof Primary School, 18 Lente Street, Kirstenhof
  • Subcouncils 6 and 11 were held earlier this month.

‘One-way road conversions are a great tool in safeguarding road users in our communities. These measures enhance pedestrian safety, alleviate congestion during peak periods and increase parking availability. These conversions will also benefit schools that have a higher number of vulnerable road users during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. The statutory public comment process is an important aspect of this undertaking. I encourage you to view the maps and submit any comment or input you may have,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
